ABOUT DR. MENGE

I grew up on a ranch in Northwest Colorado where my family raised cattle.  We lived in a very rural area, and the closest town was across the state line in Wyoming. This small town of Baggs, Wyoming was where I attended school and graduated as valedictorian. Through hard work and perseverance, I was fortunate to earn a full-ride academic scholarship to attend Michigan State University for my undergraduate education.

Upon arriving in East Lansing, I quickly fell in love with everything MSU had to offer. From the world class educational opportunities, to diverse student life activities, I found myself truly living the dream of being an MSU Spartan. This is also where I met my wife, Stephanie, who grew up in Oakland County. Utilizing the knowledge and incredible experience I gained at MSU, I then pursued a career in medicine and specialized in orthopedic surgery.

Throughout medical training we lived in many different parts of the country, but knew we always wanted to return to Michigan. We returned to West Michigan in 2017 to establish roots and grow our family in the beautiful community of Grand Rapids. Our two young daughters, Adelyn and Ava, attend a local Christian elementary school, as faith is an important component of our everyday lives.

My leadership experience in healthcare will offer a unique advantage in helping successfully guide MSU through unexpected challenges. As we emerge from the COVID pandemic, I am the best suited candidate to help students safely return back to and ensure continued in-person classes. Lastly, as a healthcare professional, I would work to further position MSU as a national leader in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) educational curriculum.

I will work tirelessly to ensure our values are represented when developing university policy. Freedom of speech and protection of personal liberties on campus is a crucial right for all students, faculty, and staff within the university. As a public university, we also want to put Michigan residents first and allow improved access to merit-based financial aid. It is also critically important to control the rising tuition costs so a high-quality education can be within reach for every student.

It would be a tremendous honor to give back to the MSU Community that has given so much to myself and my family. I would greatly appreciate your support for MSU Board of Trustees, and the opportunity to help further shape a bright and successful future for the University!

Go Green!
